This job rarely gets more dull, only more exciting and stranger… Thus I was given the honour of hosting the 2016 Bloomsday Interview as part of the annual Bloomsday Festival in the O’Reilly Theatre. The guests were the Pulitzer prize-winner Michael Chabon and author, columnist and, handily for their travel arrangements, his wife, Ayelet Waldman. He was an absolute gentleman, not only being warm, thoughtful and witty in his answers but hanging around after to sign books and then (despite just being back from a long book tour of North America) coming to the pub after to take part in the blind book swap! Bonkers, just bonkers. Thank you to everyone who came up to Dubray Books to watch me interview Simon Stephens about adapting The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time for stage all those years ago. He’s still so passionate about it and about is work in general and it helped that he’s a bit of a rock star, great at holding a crowd and charismatic to boot.
