The ROSBC Xmas Party 2016

Posted

The date on the above implies there will be more in years to come… not to get ahead of ourselves or anything. Thank you to everyone who came, Dubray for giving us the space, every single author who came and mingled (and yes I am going to namecheck you all Eoin Colfer, Alex Barclay, Arlene Hunt, Chris Judge, Colm O’Regan, Dave Rudden, Sinéad Crowley, Cat Hogan, Caroline Grace-Cassidy, Louise Phillips, Julie Parsons, Kate Beaufoy, Eleanor Fitzsimons, Orla McAlinden, Neil Hegarty, Sarah Webb, Eamon Ambrose, Laureate na nÓg PJ Lynch) and particularly Liz Nugent and Colm O’Regan for doing readings on the […]

The Liz Nugent Interview – Galway

Posted

I have to admit, I was nervous. It’s the first time that a Book Club event has been done outside of Dublin and you just never know if anyone is going to show. Little did I need to worry… Thanks to Dubray for putting us literally in the front window (I talked to an elderly American tourist afterwards who had just head the speakers and popped in, staying for the whole event! She wanted to know if I was from the TV…) Thanks to Liz for being such a warm and giving interviewee (and I mean that genuinely – some […]

The Jessie Burton Interview

Posted

Started off with the usual me tarting myself up and then sending pics to my wife to make sure I don’t look like an idiot and then her pondering clues for our books for the blind book swap after… It was brilliant to see that Dubray are now dedicating a table in their stores to the Book Club’s books of the month every month from now on. Feels weird to see them out there in the real world… The event itself was just super – Jessie was a great interviewee with tons of stuff to say about The Miniaturist, pressure, […]

The Bloomsday Interview 2016

Posted

This job rarely gets more dull, only more exciting and stranger… Thus I was given the honour of hosting the 2016 Bloomsday Interview as part of the annual Bloomsday Festival in the O’Reilly Theatre. The guests were the Pulitzer prize-winner Michael Chabon and author, columnist and, handily for their travel arrangements, his wife, Ayelet Waldman. The interview itself, along with all of the diversions, eddies and sharp left-hand turns we made through Joyce, fandom, gunn control, Oprah and weirder, will be up on their website in the coming weeks. For now, some great shots of the night taken by Ruth Medjber […]

The Chris Cleave Book Club Public Interview

Posted

He was an absolute gentleman, not only being warm, thoughtful and witty in his answers but hanging around after to sign books and then (despite just being back from a long book tour of North America) coming to the pub after to take part in the blind book swap! One of our book club members said: A few shots from last night’s Rick O’Shea Book Club author interview and then, at the bottom, details of our next one…   If you fancy coming the FB event page is here – https://www.facebook.com/events/498827280321501/

The Simon Stephens Interview

Posted

Bonkers, just bonkers. Thank you to everyone who came up to Dubray Books to watch me interview Simon Stephens about adapting The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time for stage all those years ago. He’s still so passionate about it and about is work in general and it helped that he’s a bit of a rock star, great at holding a crowd and charismatic to boot. Perfect for an interviewer in a situation like that. The event was done in association with my Book Club over on FB and around 50 of us went for a few beers […]
