I’ve never seen anything like Galway in Race Week. Ever.
I’ll take the sight of 500 people, all dolled up to the nines in their finest, queuing outside crash barriers in the lashings of rain under tiny umbrellas to get into an already jammed Radisson on Thursday night to my grave…
Producer Penny and I ended up in the main ballroom at the buffet gettting a bite to eat surrounded by pepole dressed as if they were at the swankiest wedding in history. Out of place? Us? Nah…
Went over to Spirit One Spa next door after that for a massage. Felt as if all the bones in my body had been removed after, and I mean that in a good way. I’ve only ever been there twice but it is genuinely one of my favourite places on earth and when I win the lottery I’m moving in.
The show went flyin’ – Liz and Aidan from Fáilte Towers on early, The Blizzards doing their new single and then a cracking version of Black And Gold and Paddy Power turned up fresh from the A&E after slipping and smacking his head on steps the night before…
Only in Galway on Race Week…

Carp – how did I miss you there?
We were the giant desk in the foyer marked RTE with the big speakers and the band set-up. We aim for subtlety 😉
Opted out of the Radisson after getting well and truly soaked at Ladies Day. Didn’t know there was a Rick present. Shame 🙁
I did see Rick however I was too busy trying to find a Seoige sister to look at…but all I could find was Ted Walsh and Tracy Piggot, a poor substitute indeed !
I went to the ball (it was for char-i-tee after all) and ended up chatting with the Connacht rugby team and they’re a great bunch of lads (even if the Dublin lads on the team had to translate what some of the others were saying for me)!
