As I keep getting asked on Twitter for suggestions to throw in your suitcase for holidays this Summer I thought I’d knock something together all in one place. I’m going to suggest some books I’ve already read this year that I think you should try and then give you a list of things I fully intend to have read myself by the end of Summer 2014.
Of course, everyone’s definition of a holiday read is different so there’s a fairly wide selection…
Part One – Stuff I’ve Read (click the titles for full reviews)
For a quirky, easy to read love story – Daniel Glattauer – Love Virtually
For belly laughs – David Sedaris – Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls
For a brilliant psychological modern day read – Liz Nugent – Unravelling Oliver
For a Victorian gothic rollercoaster ride – Lauren Owen – The Quick
For one of the finest SF books of the year – M.R. Carey – The Girl With All The Gifts
Part Two – The Stuff I’ll Have Read By Summer’s End
No reviews, of course, just things on my “to be read” shelf that will be in my suitcase…
What are you bringing with you this year? Drop me a comment or tweet @rickoshea

Lets see… currently reading ‘Skippy Dies’. Next few in the queue in no particular order:
– ‘Love Nina’ (bought because Nick Hornby did a cover blurb and I love Nick Hornby.)
– ‘A Clash Of Kings’ (started the ‘Game Of Thrones’ books and I’m now hooked.)
– ‘Attempting Normal’ by Marc Maron (I love Marc Maron’s podcasts, so this was a surprise find in Hodges Figgis last weekend.)
– ‘The Fourth Protocol’ (I love a good Cold War thriller, and this is one of the best.)
Dammit, I’m sure there are more stacked next to the bed…
