Cabin Fever…

I’m still alive and yes, damn you I feel as guilty for missing the last 2 days here as I do for missing the last 2 days of my radio show. If you know me at all you’ll know that it takes quite something to keep me from work (you could count the number of sick days I’ve had in the last 12 months on the fingers of someone who tragically lost a hand in a threshing accident).

Actually it’s not really some insane devotion to duty I have, I just don’t get sick. Bruce Willis character in Unbreakable? Me. I’m sure it’ll come in handy some day. But, as anyone who heard the show on Tuesday night will attest, something threw me off-kilter this week and sometimes it’s better to know when you’re beaten, particularly when what’s beating you is beating the rest of your family and you should really probably all gang up on it.

The sleep is an indicator too – ever since I started the breakfast show I’ve been getting an average of about 6 hours sleep a night, the last 2 days? 10 hours at least… Finished The Lovely Bones too and brilliant it was, started Lynne Truss’ new one today and almost finished it by this evening! Very, very unlike me… Eating nothing but toast too…

Will drag myself in on Monday regardless of how the weekend pans out…

(BTW How crazy is it that there’s some 18 year old kid in Pennsylvania who links here on his blog…..? Check him out HERE)

While I’ve been confined to barracks I’ve discovered the deeper wonders of daytime tv and through that, some truths…

* Richard & Judy? Not as bad as you’d think! Particularly when they disagree on something, she won’t back down and he nervously rubs her back because he knows he’s been an arsehole…

* BBC and Nick Jr new “whacked out on flourescent goofballs” series Lazytown is, in fact, made in Iceland. The country, not the supermarket…

* Celebrity Big Brother – even though I’ve only seen one episode it fascinated me and appaled me in equal measure. Pete Burns wearing a “gorilla” coat and breaking down in the diary room because he’s “never had to unpack for himself” before? Traci Baywatch saying she thought the coat was made of “a Chewbacca”? All of them being so unastute not to see through the promotions girl claiming to be a pop star straight away?!?!?!?!?

Anyhew, tired now but might have more later (only on the pc now because there was an e-mail I had to answer straight away! Gotta love that 21st century where even your sickbed is somewhere you can’t hide…)

One final thought – a van I saw a few days ago that made me smile:

Yes, there’s a world lino installing championship… Sweet…

PS Happy Birthday to Dan for tomorrow night! No, I won’t be there but at least I have a legitimate excuse 🙂

PPS You love me! You really love me!!!! Enough of you have voted HERE to take me from number 112 or whatever it was to number 14 on the irishblogs.info list. I’m only 10 behind Twentymajor! Sweet x2….

  1. Yo Rick,

Get my mail? Any thoughts?? Maybe you’d drop me a line back either way when ya get a chance! 🙂

  2. Glad to hear the Lovely Bones is good as I just bought it!
CBB…..you don’t know what you’ve been missing up to now 😉

  3. That linoleum company isn’t a patch on Dublin lino company Lino Ritchie – the phone number on their vans has a speech bubble saying “Hello? Is it me your looking for?”

  4. Indeed! I remember once calling them on air for a bet with the sports and news people to see if the person answering the phone would say “Hello…”

    He did.
