I watched yesterday, and listened intently to his inauguration speech, to see how he would formally set out his stall.

No more dependency on oil, climate change at the front of the agenda, a hand of friendship to everyone who wants it, a fair shake for the poor, an end to the nonsense Chicago School dogma that the market should regulate itself, a rejection of “the false choice” between safety and ideals, the nourishment of starved bodies and hungry minds in the third world, one eye to the lessons of the past.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a cynic to do with everything political.
