The Ick Factor

This is interesting…

I saw this a few days ago in the South Street Seaport and it’s utterly, utterly engrossing. Real human bodies taken apart to show you how everything works are not half as icky as you might think.

As to how it will work being exhibited in The Ambassador I have no idea; it was exhibited perfectly in the building I saw it in

  1. Oh I saw it in the South Street Seaport too. I have to say I found it a bit icky…well, creepy. Mostly because I was the only one there. It was early in the morning and it had just opened.

Also, I was alarmed to read that the “specimens” did not give their approval to be fashioned into a tourist attraction before they died. They are “unclaimed” bodies from Chinese morgues.

Hmm. Still, fascinating and illuminating indeed.

  2. a similar exhibit made it to vancouver two years ago amid protests. seems the fellow who did our exhibit was german descent and there was some bruhah from the jewish community. i never did go.

  3. Saw it years ago in Austria. Since our groups German was so poor we were going around talking about how realistic the things looked. It wasn’t until we were leaving, we found one of the guides (a medical student) who had to explain to us what it was we had been browsing for the last 2 hours.

Interesting stuff, but you’ll not eat corned beef for a week
