You Should… Read Doctor Sleep

I hate those sort of reviews that tell you everything about a book / movie / TV show before you’ve had the chance to explore it for yourself so this isn’t going to be one 🙂

I was lucky enough to get Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, a couple of weeks before release. It is, believe it or not given that I must have seen tens of TV and movie adaptations of his books and stories, the first of his books that I have ever read.

Dan Torrance is Jack’s son, this is his story from a brief childhood chapter through his hard-living adult life and into a whole new world that has resonances with the past.

No more, I’m not going to ruin it, merely to say that it’s absolute page-turning supernatural stuff and I barreled through it in no time (even though it’s over 700 pages. He writes compelling characters and it flies at knots in places that will make it unputdownable. Without question, someone is going to ruin it by making a movie of it in the near future.

Makes me want to read the original for the first time and see how it differs from Stanley Kubrik’s cinema version…

Well worth your time.
