I leaned almost everything I know from Sesame Street.
I’ve never learned a word of Spanish in my life (I did French in school) yet I can count to ten and tell you the words for open and closed to this day because of the show. What you see here is just a tiny fragment of the hundreds of videos on Youtube, if you’re of my generation you could get lost there for days 🙂
Why, oh why don’t RTE, TV3 or indeed any terrestrial or satellite broadcaster show it these days? More than one generation learned our fair share of numbers, letters and how to be nice to others through it.

Man, I love these clips. This video is great too. It’s where Cookie Monster meets The Count which is brilliant only for the end bit. There’s also some trippy songs too like this one with Kermit on heavy meds which gets progressively crazier. Or The Leprachaun Brothers performing Danny Boy. The last one might be The Muppets Tonight. It’s still muppet gold though.
It all went downhill when Elmo got bigger than Kermit!
You’re right that Play With Me Sesame is shite. However, Boomerang are now showing Fraggle Rock every morning at 9, which just about makes my day. At least I know there’s something good for the sprogs to watch! 😉
