May the fourth be with you….

And yes, before some smart arse sends me a mail I know it’s May the fifth today but yesterday was a long, long one and I’m playing catch up so…..

Yes, it’s true – next week we are giving away the chance for one listener and a mate to go to the London premiere of SW III – Revenge Of The Sith (cause the Sith understand revenge but the Jedi don’t kids!) with flights and accomodation included and yes, that is one of the coolest things I’ve ever given away.

Showing my age though – Fox offered me the chance to go to the day of screenings they’re having in London on Monday the 16th (all 6 movies in one day starting with 4, 5 and 6, then 1, 2 and the new one to finish off) and I passed. Something about all the early mornings at the moment, the thought of having to fight my way through the queues in Dublin airport and the disappointment I felt after 1 and 2 that put me off…

As for the rest of the last few days tried out disc one of The Eels new album before I fell asleep half-way though it yesterday evening (listening to quite restful music in a lying position after no nap yesterday probably not the best idea) and yes, it is as good as they say it is. Might get to listen to all of it someday.

The birthday night out was top notch (from my point of view anyway and, technically, given that it was my birthday I’m the only one who counts in such a situation) and old friends caught up, some people met new ones for the first time and many, many of them “forgot” my present and many more claimed to have “read” this blog although closer scrutiny revealed many of them to be big, fat liars. I can safely say that because I’m now sure they’re never going to read this.

Finished Sideways (finally I hear you scream at the screen!) and lapped up every page of it (quite literally). Had loads of friends tell me that the movie made them want to go out and drink more wine and the book was just as effective (just how much money do the Pinot Noir bottlers of the world and, come to think of it, the Santa Ynez Valley tourist board owe Rex Pickett?) Sad that my old and tired imagination is so weak that even though I haven’t seen the movie yet I could only think of Paul Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Church.

Started on Kevin Smith’s “Silent Bob Speaks : The Collected Writings of…” Love him personally even if I only really get some of his stuff. Really liked Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back….. Actually Jersey Girl wasn’t half bad once they offed Jennifer Lopez so I like all his stuff pretty much. It’s a collection of his non-fiction writings and really impressing me so far (the section on the casting of Jay And Silent Bob… is great particularly the bit where he spends a couple of hours trying to convince Selma Blair to tell him where Reese Witherspoon’s house is so that he can go and egg it). Sweet…
