The contractual obligation posting…

Have spent all evening compiling a CD for my 17 month old daughter of music from her favourite tv band The Wiggles!!! The rock and roll lifestyles we lead…

Then the thought had occured to me (again!) that the original brief of this blog (being a behind the scenes kind of thing for the new breakfast show) should be adhered to every now and then in some tenuous way and thus…

THE SHOW

All is well on the good ship Rick and Ruth if not becoming a little hectic. We’re now getting to the stage (in case you hadn’t noticed) where our weekly 8.30 competitions are starting to flesh out a bit and, dare I say, develop a bit more of a surreal vibe. We had a huge laugh (HO!) last week with our Italian bistro/translation thing and this week the hotel situation is a bit of fun too… Any suggestions for the future on a postcard or we might just start getting really silly…

Loads of stuff starting to take shape for the Summer. No, I can’t be specific or all of the other radio breakfast shows that scour these pages for even the slightest scrap of valuable intelligence about what we’re doing (hi guys!!) will be on us faster than you can say “cheap rip off a go go” so instead let me be uncustomarily (that’s a very cromulent word!) foggy…

Yes, we’re coing out to meet y’all, yes they will be live shows you can come to around the country over the Summer (get your request for tx in now – breakfast@2fm.ie) and yes they’ll be a bit of a laugh. More to follow.

We are starting to line up loads of guests – Chris Martin talking on the show next Monday about the new Coldplay album, Ronan (bless his blisters!) on tomorrow morning talking about the walk he’s in the middle of, one of THE biggest stars of 80s kids TV this coming Friday and next week two of the biggest cartoon stars ever brought to life… Bit broad that 🙂

The crew are all mutating too (and unfortunately not in the X Men kind of way… Shame.) Michael is our current fill-in producer for the while (a long story but they took in a load of new producers here in RTE after Xmas and we’re getting to road test a few before we make up our minds picky bunch that we are!) with new girl Sinead producing with us for at least the next 4 weeks or so. Yes,I know what you’re thinking – I can’t figure out what one producer does let alone two of them but sure we have licence fee dollars to spend willy nilly so… (JOKE!!!!!)

Our broadcast assistant Penny became the brilliant David who now has become the equally brilliant Lindy (hang on, maybe there is a bit of X-Men schtuff going on…) Penny is off down in Limerick visiting our cultural betters in Lyric FM (hi Pen!) but will be returning soon to continue the world’s best game of radio musical chairs.

The only two of us who seem to be able to stay still on the show for any period of time are Ruth and myself and, to be fair, our names are above the door so we probably should make the effort…

Cheesy Listening still continues to be my favourite part of the show – where else would I get the chance to indulge my passion on prime time national radio for songs like the original Norwegian version of Bobbysocks’ Eurovision winner “La Det Swinge”, the back catalogue of Denis Waterman, CW McColl’s “Convoy” and, this Wednesday, what may be simultaneously the best and worst football song ever recorded… It alone is a good enough reason to pay your licence fee…

🙂
